The Renewable Heath Incentive (RHI) is a Government funded scheme focusing on encouraging the use of low carbon heating. Currently the RHI is for non-domestic installations, with domestic RHI payments due to be added to the scheme in 2012. The RHI is paid by Ofgem from tax revenue, rather than by energy companies like the Feed-in Tariff (FiT).
The tariffs will be paid for 20 years for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of heat which is produced through renewable sources. The RHI payments can deliver up to a 12% return on investment.
RHI tariffs are index-linked and will increase with inflation year-on-year.
